Heather Locke is a research analyst for The National Community Survey™ (The NCS™). This role encompasses survey development, managing the collection of data, analyzing data, creating reports, and helping municipalities understand their results.

Heather’s background and professional work have largely focused on relationship building and communication. Her passion is for facilitating dialogue, developing networks, engaging with diverse populations, and offering tools for organizations – including municipalities, non-profits, and colleges and universities – to better understand, educate, and serve their populations.

Heather worked at NRC for seven years during the roll-out phase of The NCS. “It was an exciting time to work through the processes of a turnkey service, establishing exactly what we should measure, how to communicate results, and the many details of managing surveys on a large scale,” she says. “It was a formative time for me professionally, and it has been delightful to return 10 years later!”

Since then, The NCS has grown, developed and streamlined. The team has also grown, creating new tools and innovations along the way. One thing that has not changed, however, is NRC’s commitment to supporting staff personally and professionally.

“This attention to everyone’s well-being is not something you always see across professional organizations, and I am pleased that these core values are very much still in place,” she says. “From my first interview to today, the sound of NRCers laughing is so joyful. There’s a lot of hard work here, and when it is joined by giggles and belly laughs, it makes the company alive and a unique place to be!”

In addition to her work for NRC, Heather has had the good fortune of working in a variety of organizations, large and small, via home and office, domestically and internationally. She’s worked with bestselling authors, well-known scientists and religious luminaries including the Dalai Lama.

“I feel tremendously fortunate to be back at NRC again with a great team that provides an invaluable service. Working for NRC is a natural fit for me, as the organization offers tools to municipalities to listen and understand their residents’ needs,” says Heather. “I have also developed friendships and collegial relationships through my work with NRC that have lasted more than 17 years.”

Travel abroad with my kiddos.
